Mobb Deep

Infamous

Vinyl: $44.99 Buy

MP3 Album: $9.99 Download

Limited double 180 gram vinyl LP pressing. The Infamous is the second studio album by the American hip hop duo Mobb Deep, released in 1995. The album features guest appearances from Nas and Wu-Tang Clan members Reakwon and Ghostface Killah. It marked Mobb Deep's transition from a relatively unknown rap duo to an influential and commercially successful one. One of the cornerstones of the New York hardcore movement, The Infamous is Mobb Deep's masterpiece, a relentlessly bleak song cycle that's been hailed by hardcore rap fans as one of the most realistic gangsta albums ever recorded. This is hard, underground hip hop that demands to be met on it's own terms, with few melodic hooks to draw the listener in. Similarly, there's little pleasure or relief offered in the picture of the streets Mobb Deep paint here. They inhabit a war zone where crime and paranoia hang constantly in the air. The product of an uncommon artistic vision, The Infamous stands as an all-time gangsta/hardcore classic.

Wu-Tang Clan's Ghostface Killah made his solo debut with this 1996 album, and what a debut it was: a #2 smash, a platinum album and one of the greatest creations to come out of the Wu-Tang orbit (this was produced by RZA, too). Raekwon and Cappadonna share the rapping with Ghostface as the soul/blaxploitation samples fly across "All That I Got Is You" (featuring Mary J. Blige), "260," "Iron Maiden," "Wildflower," "Daytona 500," "After the Smoke Is Clear" and more. A '90s hip-hop classic returns here on double 180-gram vinyl in a gatefold sleeve! Music on Vinyl.

RUN-D.M.C.

King Of Rock [180 Gram]

Vinyl: $37.99 UNAVAILABLE

MP3 Album: $7.99 Download

Rap would never be the same after Run-D.M.C. arrived in '83. Their self-titled debut LP wrested rap from the joyous block-party vibe and made it raw, gritty and mean, and they broke down even more doors with "King of Rock" ('85). Unlike the bouncy, funky stuff of old, Run-D.M.C. rocked the rap here, putting a charge into it that made them rap kings AND rock stars. Here, on 180-gram vinyl, are their crucial cuts (and R&B hits) "King of Rock," "You Talk Too Much," "Jam-Master Jammin'," "Can You Rock It Like This" and more! Music on Vinyl.

Limited 180 gram audiophile vinyl LP pressing. The D.O.C., short for Department of Correction, is a highly skilled battle rhymer from Dallas, USA. In addition to his solo career he was a member of the hip hop group Fila Fresh Crew and later collaborated with gangsta rap group N.W.A where he co-wrote many of their releases. After Fila Fresh Crew split up in 1988, The D.O.C. went on to pursue a successful solo career. No One Can Do It Better is the debut album by The D.O.C. from 1989 and is produced by the then upcoming Dr. Dre who contributed on most of the fast hard hitting rap tracks with his heavy funk laden beats. The album reached #1 on the US Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart for two weeks and spawned two #1 hits on the Hot Rap Songs chart: 'It's Funky Enough' and 'The D.O.C. & The Doctor'. Tragically The D.O.C. severed his vocal chords in an almost fatal car accident in November 1989 but No One Can Do It Better still stands the test of time as one of the early pre-Chronic albums.

Limited 180gm audiophile vinyl LP pressing. Includes insert with lyrics. O.G. Original Gangster, Ice-T's fourth album, is probably Ice's best album as he continued his streak of classic albums that he started with Power. Ice reached his peak on here, as his lyrics and beat selection were the best they had ever been. Ice-T was a pioneering force for the west coast, especially in the '80s, as he was one of the first gangster rap artists. At his finest hour, he connected his street language to subjects as violence, social structures and the ghetto life. The refined flow of the beats marks this essential record and masterpiece. The album peaked at #15 on the U.S. Billboard 200, and was featured in many Best Rap and Hip-Hop lists, as well as the book 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die.

Limited 180 gram audiophile vinyl LP pressing including insert. By All Means Necessary is the second album from legendary American hip hop group Boogie Down Productions, and was originally released in 1988. The murder of DJ Scott La Rock in 1987 had a profound effect on KRS-One, resulting in a drastic rethinking of his on-record persona. He re-emerged the following year with By All Means Necessary, calling himself The Teacher and rapping mostly about issues facing the black community. He refuses to allow the community to be stereotyped. His observations are sharp, lucid, and confident. Yet he doesn't fall prey to the peachiness that would mark some of his later work. There are some lighter moments in the battle-rhyme tracks, and a witty safe-sex rap in 'Jimmy'. This album is widely considered a landmark in political hip hop and is among the Source's 100 Best Rap Albums. The lyrics from this album have been sampled by everyone from Prince Paul to N.W.A.

Busta Rhymes

Genesis

Vinyl: $44.99 Buy

Limited 180gm audiophile vinyl LP pressing including insert. Genesis is the fifth studio album by American rapper and Leader Of The New School alumnus Busta Rhymes. Released in 2001, the album debuted at #7 on the Billboard 200 and ultimately sold one million copies in the US and was certified platinum. The fourth single from the album, 'Pass the Courvoisier Part II', peaked at #11 on the Billboard Hot 100. On Genesis, the beats seem darker and more synth-oriented, giving it an edge reminiscent of the bass-heavy G-funk sound. 'As I Come Back' is a good example, featuring a sustained keyboard note droning on throughout the chorus with Busta rapping in his raspy style. Busta Rhymes can also make a good dance song, like the hypnotic 'What It Is', a fractured funk anthem that features robotic female vocals from Kelis and a slow beat consisting of clicks and snaps. Other guest appearances include P. Diddy's turn on the dramatic 'Pass the Courvoisier', Mary J. Blidge on 'There's Only One' and the occasional appearances by the Flipmode Squad, as well as production work from Pete Rock and Dr. Dre, among others.
