Ivan Reitman's blockbuster sci-fi comedy Ghostbusters comes to DVD with a widescreen transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 2.35:1. The English soundtrack is rendered in Dolby Digital 5.1. English subtitles are accessible. The extensive supplemental materials are headed by a commentary track from Reitman and star/screenwriter Harold Ramis that is presented with their silhouettes on the screen watching the film (much like Mystery Science Theater 3000). Also included are storyboard-to-screen comparison featurettes that date from 1984 and 1999, trailers, production notes, deleted scenes, and a documentary on the special effects created for the film. Those interested in the technical aspects of film will enjoy a feature that lets the viewer look at the effects shot from multiple endings. This is a superb disc from Columbia/TriStar.
